Canal Operations

The Gulf Coast Water Authority operates and maintains a 315-mile canal system, an essential part of its water delivery infrastructure. These canals carry water from the Brazos River across Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Galveston counties into other GCWA infrastructure.

Our Canal employees work year-round to maintain canal depths and levees. If an area along one of these canals is leaking or overflowing, please call GCWA's Emergency Number.

We also routinely mow canal rights-of-way twice a year. Please click on the link for more information on GCWA's Landscape Maintenance Policy and Procedures.

GCWA canals are identified with signage. In the interest of public safety, no swimming, fishing, or other public access is allowed.

The Canal Division operates under Operations and reports to the Assistant General Manager, Jake Hollingsworth, MBA.
