David A. Sauer, an Assistant General Manager with the Gulf Coast Water Authority, has announced his retirement effective Monday, February 28, 2022. David began his career in September of 1975 with the Brazos River Authority (BRA) as an Oiler and advanced to working for the BRA Canal System in Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Galveston Counties. Due to his talent and work ethic, he steadily progressed under Gene Shannon to Maintenance Superintendent.

In 1988, the Gulf Coast Water Authority purchased the Canal System from the BRA where David's career continued to flourish, including a promotion to Canal Manager. As the Canal Manager, he was responsible for delivering water to the Texas City Industrial Complex, the Chocolate Bayou Industrial Complex, numerous cities, and thousands of acres to area farms. David was called upon to be the GCWA's Interim General Manager in 2011 and subsequently promoted to Assistant General Manager. His career on the Canal System spanned more than 46 years.

Brandon Wade, GCWA's CEO and General Manager said, "David has been a mentor and inspiration to us all with his depth of knowledge and work ethic. We will miss his guidance here, and we wish David and his wife Janet a wonderful retirement. He certainly has earned it."
